Tena, EForm or Proform?

EForm nappy

I have a dilema… why? Because I am finally getting towards the end of my mammoth nappy supply that I bought back in 2009 – yes! 2009! I decided back then that I would try the cheapest nappies that I could find. Gompels (based in the UK) sell a range of adult nappies from three manufacturers: Proform, Eform (EuronForm) and Contifit. The ones I bought were Proform and Eform – and I went for three cases (a total of 324 nappies).

I tend to wear on binge and convenience basis – often I will wear for a week or two at a time, sometimes just nights for a week or so, sometimes just going to the cinema or sometimes just on the weekend. Usually I supplement the nappy with a soaker (which tends to be a Pampers or Huggies size 6).

Overall, the Proform and Eform nappies have been good, especially considering the price. The biggest gripe would be that the elastic of the inner leg barrier would sometimes break away from the nappy making leaks much more likely, especially for messy nappies.

Odour control, both performed quite well and comfort was ok although I had to balance comfort/tightness around the leg with risk of leaks.

Alot of the time I wear shaped reusable nappies over the top of my disposables which does help to mitigate leaks, but generally I would prefer everything stays in the disposable otherwise there is not much point in it! Why not just use a reusable? A pain to wash and dry!

So, now I need to think about what nappies to buy next – being in the UK, although it would be nice to try the Bambino adult nappies, the shipping cost is too prohibitive. On balance, I am leaning towards the Tena slip nappies – Tena have a reputation for a decent quality product so probably worth a go!

Nearly a year!

February 17, 2011

Poor I know, it has been nearly a year since I last blogged – sorry! Well, I am still here, and have had a really busy last year – moved house, redecorated, done lots of gardening, busy at work, you name it, I think I have been doing it! 2011 is finally upon us, well, actually it has been on us for a while, and so far seems great. Hopefully this year I will get around to spending a bit more time here and also on a couple of my other websites.

In the mean time, anything on the nappy front? Not huge amounts, nearing the end of my last bulk order of disposables and am now contemplating whether to go reusable and do my bit for saving landfill, or buy another load of disposables. A longer blog on this to follow soon…

A week in nappies – one week on…

March 15, 2010

contifitnappyAfter being in nappies for 7 days straight, it is beginning to feel quite normal! In fact, playing the Wii wearing dance tights and a leotard, it felt like something was missing! Well, I suppose there was, a nappy. I have found that I have gotten used to having the bulge of a nappy between my legs so going to a tight fitting lycra garment was going to the other end of the scale.

Although at work I have only been wearing a Tena Slip Plus nappy, and only wetting, whilst at work, it has been quite liberating in a way to be in nappies for a longer period of time. I must stress that my reasons for wearing nappies (apart from the very occasional slight IBS), are for my own fun and convenience – one thing that I have learnt from being in nappies for a longer period of time, is that when wearing nappies all the time, you really have to be more prepared. Spare nappies are of couse essential for changing – in previous times when wearing nappies, I enjoyed staying in the same nappy for quite long periods of time but on occasion, the dreaded nappy rash hit which is rather uncomfortable.

So, how many nappies have I gotten through? Well, I have tended to average no more than 4 nappies over a 24 hour period – 2 during the day, 1 during the evening and 1 overnight.

A week in nappies

March 8, 2010

The nappy_collectiontime has come for another week in nappies! Nappies are not my only interest, so like to vary my active wardrobe and nappies don’t always go well with more figure hugging clothes such as leggings and fitted jeans. For the next 7 or so days, I will spend almost every minute in nappies with the exceptions being showering and an evening run where out comes the 3/4 length running tights, leotard and fitted running top. My first night of the nappy week was last night and my nappy arrangement (arrangement because I tend to wear more than just a single disposable at a time) was a pampers nappy as a soaker, a conti-fit super-plus disposable nappy and a shaped cotton and fleece reusable nappy over the top.

I woke up wet, but the wetting was intentional the previous evening. Needless to say, the nappy was rather heavy by this time! During the day (at work), it was a pampers nappy as a soaker, with a Tena slip nappy over the top and a pull-up reusable pocket nappy over the top.

At the moment? A conti-fit disposable with a fleece waterproof reusable wrap nappy over the top. Need a change though… :) Only another minimum of 7 days to go!

Soakers vs disposables

March 4, 2010

This is an area that I haven’t really come to a conclusion on – whilst soakers are nice and eco friendly (ish!), I find that you tend to need use more to acheive the same level of absorbancy that even a disposable pampers/huggies nappy can offer. Disposables also have the convenience side in their favour, especially when it comes to messy nappies ;) However on the downside, disposables have that crinkling noise so soakers win on that front!

I think in the end it really depends on what you are doing as to whether it is best to use a soaker or disposable for increasing the absorbancy of “real” nappies…!

Happy New Year!

January 6, 2010

Minki_Slinki_PinkCandy_03A happy snowy new year to everyone! Ok, I am a few days late with the new year wishes, but what does a few days mean between friends!

Last night saw a slowish drive home in the falling snow, and this morning, we woke up to a thick blanket of the white stuff covering everything. I went out with my ruler, and the depth came to 7 inches – which for the South of the UK, really is a lot.

I took advantage of the whole working from home thing and must admit that I got more done at home than I do at work – no distracting telephone calls, no silly questions from the users…

Minki_Slinki_PinkCandy_02So, the picture on the right – nothing to do with snow. You are right, it is not really that reflective of the content of this post, but hey, I haven’t uploaded the photos from the camera yet and so a nappy was the next best thing! This is my latest resuable nappy, a nice bright shade of pink on the inside and candy stripe pattern on the outside. Between the two layers of fleece is a waterproof layer and a pocket for adding soakers. One of the most comfortable nappies I have! I say one of, because I have two of these, the other is blue!

Snow!

December 22, 2009

As I write this post, there is 3 inches of snow on the ground, the trees & shed are covered, and I am sitting in front of my computer in a nice warm nappy, tights, skirt & bodywarmer – what could be better! After taking 3 hours to get home, a journey that normally takes 45 minutes, I decided to go for working from home today, and surprisingly, have got more done than when at work! Not having any interruptions, apart from the cat walking around on the keyboard, makes a huge difference.

Adult babies and diaper lovers

September 24, 2009

Do you consider yourself either an adult baby (AB) or a diaper lover (DL)? Or just a person who likes to wear or needs to wear nappies? I’m an adult (in case you haven’t already guessed by reading this blog :) ) and enjoy wearing nappies. Sometimes the “enjoy wearing” can be replaced with “need to wear”, but mostly, it is enjoy. I probably wear nappies for about 7 to 10 days out of every month on average. By a day, I mean 24 hours rather than just during the day itself.

So, that is a bit of background – in short, I don’t call myself either an adult baby or a diaper lover, but if I had to classify myself, it would be as a diaper lover…

Review – Tena Flex

July 18, 2009

reviewtenadetailI have finally got my act together to write a quick review on the Tena Flex adult nappy, so here goes!

About the nappy…

The Tena Flex is an all-in-one style nappy that is designed for wearing by those with an active lifestyle. The nappy has a wide waist band that wraps completely completely around and fastens to itself. This has two main advantages in that it is completely adjustable, and allows the nappy to be put on whilst standing up. The waist band is made of a soft cotton feel fabric that is breathable. The main part of the nappy (the absorbant bit!) folds up between the legs and fastens onto the waist band. All the fastenings are re-usable and effectively grip the fabric of the waist band rather than stick with adhesive like a normal nappy. There is a wetness indicator on the nappy as well, which works as a good measure of how full the nappy is. When wet, apart from the nappy being heavier, you really wouldn’t know.
